This unit applies to current, junior or aspiring athletes who want to pursue a career in golf at a regional, State, Territory or National level. Those undertaking this unit should be a scholarship holder with a regional, State, Territory or National Institute of Sport, a member of a State, Territory or national team or squad or a member of a second tier national competition.

This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to apply the A-Grade tactics and strategies of golf in a competitive situation. A-Grade golf is defined as a handicap of 5 to 12 for males and females and a National Skills Test score in the range of 50 to 60. This unit focuses on the development and performance of A-Grade tactics and strategies of golf through participation in activities and competitions.

No licensing, regulatory or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of endorsement.

Evidence of the following is essential:

utilises knowledge and interpretation of A-Grade tactics and strategies of golf, and relevant rules, regulations and policies to develop and follow game plans, and apply the tactics and strategies in competitive situations

determines own psychological approaches and prepares to apply tactics and strategies accordingly

communicates with colleagues, coach or mentor, officials and support staff throughout activities and games, and responds to feedback

reviews own performance to identify strengths and areas requiring improvement or modifications.

Context of and specific resources for assessment

Assessment must ensure performance of the A-Grade tactics and strategies of golf applicable to agreed game plan to achieve a handicap of 5 to 12 under competition conditions over a minimum of five rounds on a minimum of three 18 hole golf courses and achieves a score in the range of 50 to 60 on the National Skills Test demonstrate competency and consistency of performance.

Assessment must also ensure access to:

golf training and competition facilities

a coach or mentor to instruct players

suitably qualified golfing officials and support staff

technological aids and equipment

resources and information outlining the A-Grade tactics and strategies of golf

rules and regulations of golf such as official golf publications and the Australian Sports Commission Harassment-free Sport policy

current organisational policies and procedures that impact on the conduct of drills, activities, games and competitions.

Method of assessment

A range of assessment methods should be used to assess practical skills and knowledge. The following examples are appropriate for this unit:

observation of performance of A-Grade tactics and strategies of golf during drills, activities, games and competitions

oral or written questioning to assess knowledge of the application of the A-Grade tactics and strategies of golf

third-party reports from coaches or professionals detailing performance.
